How can we create a tool that allows users to capture, map, and write their thoughts in a single workspace?

To write, thinkers need structure. But to find structure, they need space to explore. Etch is a playground for thinkers: collect fragments, map them in space, and turn that map into writing.

Start from a library of notes and canvases.

Home is recents plus every note—so you can capture a thought or jump back into a canvas without changing tools.

Bring your notes into the canvas.

Search and pull notes from the sidebar so the canvas stays in conversation with everything you’ve already saved.

Think in space & create subcanvases

Canvases are infinitely nestable boards for grouping cards, media, and clusters of thought.

Draw the relationships.

Make connectors and label them: create relationships between your thoughts.

Turn section of notes into an draft.

Select a group of thoughts and ask Etch to frame a writing structure around it.

Use a linear layout, add and iterate, continue thinking and writing.

The same cards can become a linearly organized section. Copy and paste to continue exploring variations of your thoughts.
